How we work

One problem. Thirty days. A clearer decision.

Our improvement sprint combines research operations expertise, focused tools and hands-on delivery. Every engagement begins with a real outcome, a visible baseline and clear ownership.

The improvement sprint

Understand. Baseline. Test. Decide.

A first month should create evidence and momentum—not a long discovery exercise that leaves the team carrying the same problem.

Days 1–5

Understand the work

We agree the outcome, speak with the people closest to the work and trace how information, decisions and responsibilities currently move.

Days 6–10

Make the baseline visible

We define the starting point using evidence the organisation can defend: time, volume, delay, rework, exceptions, exposure or another relevant measure.

Days 11–20

Test the priority change

We work with a focused group to test the tool, control or delivery change against real constraints before scaling it.

Days 21–30

Decide what follows

We show what changed, what remains, who owns the next actions and whether the right route is adoption, a further sprint or embedded delivery.

Who does the work

Clear accountability from RKE and from your organisation.

A named RKE lead is responsible for delivery, quality and communication. We bring in trusted specialists only where the scope needs additional expertise or capacity.

Your organisation keeps an accountable sponsor and the operational people needed to test the work. Together we agree decision rights, information access, review points, risks and the handover from the start.

This reduces key-person risk: the method, decisions and working knowledge are documented, and ownership is transferred rather than retained by the consultant.

Delivery models

Use the smallest model that can create the outcome.

01

Solution-led

An RKE tool and implementation method focused on a defined operational task.

02

Expert sprint

A time-bound review or improvement piece with agreed evidence, output and handover.

03

Embedded improvement capacity

An experienced RKE Support team member works inside the operation, protecting delivery while improving the process around it.

04

Fractional leadership

Senior research operations leadership for transition, stabilisation, priorities and accountable change.

Evidence and handover

Agree how progress will be known before the work begins.

  • A defined problem, scope and senior owner.
  • A starting measure the organisation can reproduce.
  • Expected outputs, decisions and review points.
  • Documented controls, process and knowledge transfer.
  • A close-out view of outcome, open risks and next ownership.

Start with one problem

Bring us the issue your team keeps working around.

We will help you define the outcome, identify the evidence already available and decide whether a focused 30-day sprint is the right next step.
