Case studies

Work that makes the system clearer.

Selected examples of how we have helped organisations protect funded work, strengthen research operations and turn repeated effort into a more usable process.

01

Protecting delivery on a £450,000 Innovate UK award

Context
An organisation needed experienced post-award support to bring a live funded project back into a controlled position.
What we did
We reviewed the award requirements, financial position, claims, records and responsibilities; clarified the immediate actions; and worked with the team to strengthen the way information and evidence were maintained.
Outcome
The client met its project milestones with delivery partners, strengthened consistent reporting and maintained the evidence needed for funder and audit requirements. The organisation could keep its attention on the funded innovation while RKE Support provided the grant-management structure around it.
02

Strengthening a university post-award function

Context
A research team needed greater consistency across award setup, reconciliation, claims, handover and staff knowledge.
What we did
We worked alongside operational and finance colleagues to understand the end-to-end process, surface gaps, document responsibilities and create practical guidance and training around the priority areas.
Outcome
The team had a clearer shared process, stronger onboarding material and a practical improvement plan owned by the people responsible for delivery.
03

Reducing the effort behind grant reconciliation

Context
Repeated spreadsheet preparation and manual checks were absorbing experienced staff time and delaying useful conversations with project leads.
What we did
We mapped the reconciliation task, separated repeatable handling from professional judgement and developed RKE Reconcile around the finance exports and award information already available.
Outcome
The working process moved from spreadsheet assembly towards exception review and clearer project reporting—giving staff more time to focus on decisions and support.
